To watch a Paul Smith runway show is to be immersed in the designer’s personal tastes, and to experience some of the best music compilations ever prepared for a fashion event. The designer’s fall/winter 2016 runway show features, without doubt, one of the best mix of tunes this magazine team has ever heard. In the spirit of sharing his love for music, Sir Paul Smith has teamed with Apple Music to create a series of unique playlists. “From the album artwork to the friendships I’ve built over the years with musicians, it’s all part of my creative process,” he says of the place music plays in his world. Each based on a specific theme, the first playlist, Around the World in 20 Tracks, is a soundtrack to the designer’s global travels, while Something Old, Something New is a playlist in four parts that blends past and present influences, mirroring his fashion collections. The last, From Herbie to Holiday - a personal favourite- is a tribute to some of history’s greatest jazz musicians, many of whom Sir Paul witnessed live some years ago. Listen for yourself.
