As part of its ongoing commitment to the creation of new work, the Fondation Louis Vuitton has unveiled a temporary work by revered Op Art artist Daniel Buren at its Paris-based museum. An intervention of sorts, Buren’s work creates a dialogue with the architectural foundations of the building, designed by Frank Gehry and opened last year, with the glass sails covered in a bold array of coloured filters in what is called Observatory of Light. The effect, from a distance, is of criss-crossing patterns, but closer up, and beneath the glass sails, light filters through in dynamic and unexpected ways, creating unique colour compositions, thwarting our traditional understanding of space and context.
