After first launching in 2012, Melbourne-based luxury leathergoods label A-ESQUE has, at last, dipped its toe into the water in Sydney, with the opening of its new store. Located in the Strand Arcade, the Amanda Briskin-founded label prides itself on a high level of authenticity in the craftsmanship process, and the historic surrounds of the Strand Arcade make it a rather fitting home for A-ESQUE, with an interior that extends upon the label’s core values.
Designed by fast-rising interior architect David Flack, and featuring artwork by John Nicholson, the store’s interior, as Mr Flack explains, “takes cues from the ethos of A-ESQUE: dedication to creating things that are so beautiful in and of themselves that the customer only needs to see the quality and just fall in love.” Mr Flack set to challenge what a luxury boutique is and can look like, incorporating antique copper coat racks, Italian marble and coloured granite alongside the vivid eccentricity of Mr Nicholson’s wall sculptures. “I love to see contemporary design sit within heritage buildings, and so I wanted the design to be at once deferential and defiantly proud of the new.”
