The winner of the 2015 Woolmark Prize for menswear, New York-based label Public School, has this week released its special capsule collection in stores. Inspired by a post-apocalyptic urban jungle, the collection will be exclusively stocked by the Woolmark Prize’s retail partners of Harvey Nichols (London), Saks Fifth Avenue (New York), David Jones (Melbourne), 10 Corso Como (Milan, Beijing and Shanghai), Isetan Mitsukoshi (Japan) and online at MatchesFashion.com.
Public School is the inaugural winner of the menswear-specific category of the prize, which awards $100,000(AUD) along with retail support. This year’s final was judged by designer Sir Paul Smith, critic Tim Blanks and GQ editor-in-chief Dylan Jones. The label’s co-founders and designers, Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow, were recognised for their street-ready collection crafted from high quality Merino wool. “We employed many different techniques in creating this collection such as needle punching and tubular knitting,” explained the designers. “We played with boiling and felting the wool to the point where we could treat it as a woven fabric.”
