NYFW: ALEXANDER WANG SPRING SUMMER 2016

In New York, Alexander Wang’s spring summer 2016 collection was a riotous celebration of his brand.

When Alexander Wang announced that he would not be renewing his contrast as artistic director Balenciaga earlier this year following its initial three-year term, he noted that it was to spend more time focusing on his namesake, New York-based label. His latest offering, shown this week at New York Fashion Week, indicates that he’s taking that re-evaluation very seriously by returning to his roots as a designer with a collection that takes its cues from the city’s gritty streets rather than the haute couture ballrooms of Paris.

It was, in many ways, a celebration of a decade of Mr Wang’s brand (with a chronological video showcase of those ten years as its finale) and although he has already presented his spring summer 2016 menswear collection, he peppered the collection with a number of men’s looks that helped to complete his narrative, with oversized technical fabric t-shirts, pleat-front cropped trousers, zip-up boiler suits and leather embellished overalls.
