SEE: NEW BREED

What goes into a dance performance? We went into the studio at Sydney Dance Company ahead of New Breed.

Through the generosity of The Balnaves Foundation, the philanthropic organisation established by Neil Balnaves AO, Sydney Dance Company has been able to develop a platform for emerging choreographic talent, New Breed, which premiered last night in Sydney and comprised new works by Charmene Yap, Cass Mortimer Eipper, Gabrielle Nankivell, Juliette Barton and Lee Serle. Just what goes into the making of such a work? For many of these dancers, it’s their first time choreographing a work for a professional company (working with fellow dancers from Sydney Dance Company) and an opportunity to explore their creativity. We visited the artists at work in the studio in the lead-up to the performance, which runs until Sunday.

New Breed is playing at Carriageworks until 08 November 2014.
